David Clark is a Group Partner and the Managing Director of the Guernsey Office. He is also the Local Group Head for the Corporate and Commercial Group in Guernsey. David has over 15 years experience advising on all areas of corporate and commercial law with particular expertise in corporate finance, banking and asset finance, mergers and acquisitions, project and film financing, structured finance and restructuring.
David joined Appleby's London office in 2004 and transferred to the Guernsey office in March 2010. Prior to this he practised in London with Sidley Austin Brown & Wood and Clifford Chance, specialising in international capital markets. David gained additional experience during secondments to the Hong Kong and Tokyo offices of Clifford Chance as well as to Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. David became a Partner of Appleby in 2009.
David graduated with honours from the University of Cambridge with a B.A. and M.A. He was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1995 (now non-practising), Hong Kong in 1997, the British Virgin Islands in 2003 and is registered with the Bermuda Bar.
He is a frequent author and speaker, having participated in conference panels on anti-money laundering, taking security offshore and captive insurance.
David speaks Spanish and some French.
Some recent examples of work include:
• Advising Hewlett-Packard International Sarl on the international restructuring of the Hewlett-Packard group.
• Advising Standard Bank Plc in relation to the financing of various African energy and mining projects.
• Advising Lloyds TSB Bank Plc on numerous letter of credit facilities provided to Bermuda insurers and reinsurers.
• Advising a multinational renewable energy group in relation to the acquisition of land for reforestation in South America, Australia and South East Asia, and the issuance of carbon credits.
• Advising a major European investment bank regarding the financing of four major motion pictures.
